Texas A&M to begin SEC play in 2013?

Posted by Ag_in_TX on August 2nd, 2010 under Baseball, Basketball, Football, Recruiting

OK – let me begin by saying I take all this crap with a huge ass grain of salt.

On Saturday, a source attached to the Board of Regents told this reporter that A&M to the SEC in 2013 was going to happen. I hesitated to post anything publically because it was only one unsubstantiated rumor (and frankly, how can one substantiate these things?).

However, this morning, two other sources – one with different connections to the Board and one with a highly placed source in the athletic department have told me the same thing.

All these sources say that A&M will have legal ground for leaving in three years without having to forfeit TV income as penalty fees, although the legal argument for making that claim has not been made public.

Will a&m be using converted O-linemen at DT?

As an aggie I can only assume you’re happy about this development, buy let me ask you this: How is it that an a&m team that hasn’t really competed very well in a weak Big XII suppose to make headway in the SEC?

  2. Short answer: I don’t know – I’m just reporting the news.

But keep in mind that present day competitiveness in any given sport is not likely being used as a decision criterion by the powers that be.

Question- what if UT felt so threatened that it said, “We’re going to the SEC also.” Would that ruin it for the Ags?

  4. Not for me. I’d love it. While I think it would reduce one of A&M’s recruiting advantages that may arise from the move, I don’t think it would substantially.

However, that point is moot as I think Bill Powers would rather chew broken glass than go to the SEC.

I kinda feel like Babu from Seinfeld -

Babu and a friend are sitting at a table in an outdoor cafe in Pakistan.

Babu: So his friend got the mail but she did not give it to him. And then he came to visit me. Said the lawyer was called to help, he said the wheels were in motion, but there was no motion. There was nothing. And so they sent me back here.

  7. Meh.

    I LOVE AGGIE FOOTBALL!!!!!!!!!

  9. The sources on this are all credible ones that have been correct in the past about big doings. It may take some time – may take a year – but these sources have yet to be wrong.

  10. And you really think that UT and Tech (& Baylor may also join the party) are really going to let this happen if they don’t have other options to work on?

  11. And how exactly would they stop it?
